Scripts and cheats are often lumped together, but they work in different ways. The key difference is where the program gets its data and how it acts in the game.
How a cheat works
A cheat injects itself into the game process or reads and changes its memory. That gives it what is not on the screen: where enemies stand behind walls, how much health they have, where they are running. Hence the typical cheat features — wallhack, ESP, an aimbot driven by coordinates from memory, tampering with game data.
How a script works
Nova Macro scripts and neural networks do not inject into the game and do not touch its files or memory — no feature needs it. The program runs separately from the game:
- It only sees the screen. It recognizes the weapon, sight and attachments from the picture — the same way you see them. Recognition is built on artificial intelligence.
- It only acts through the mouse and keyboard. The program moves the mouse and presses keys — for example, it pulls against recoil the way a player who knows the pattern perfectly would. Input goes through the official Windows API or through a Kmbox Net or Makcu board that the computer sees as a regular mouse.
- It knows no more than you do. Enemy positions behind walls, their health and other data from game memory are not available to the program.
In brief
Cheat
- Injects into the game or reads its memory
- Sees what is not on the screen
- Can change game data
Script
- Runs separately from the game
- Sees only the picture on the screen
- Moves the mouse the way you do
What it means in practice
A script takes the routine off your hands: it holds the recoil and switches the profile for your weapon and attachments on its own. Choosing positions, moving and making decisions is still up to you — it will not make you immortal or let you shoot through walls.
// Important
Game developers update their protection, so working methods sometimes go into update. The current state of every method is on the status page. Modded Rust servers run manual checks — how to pass them is covered in the article “Rust check”.
